Don't push me on date of LG polls, Uduaghan tells Journalists
Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan

In what looks like a clear indication that the much awaited local government election may tarry for a long while to come, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has appealed to journalists practicing in the state not to push him into making a statement on when the election will hold.

Dr. Uduaghan who equally charged media practitioners in the state not to coerce him into making any declaration as to who will succeed him as governor of the state come 2015, dropped the hint during a media chat with journalists in the state at the New Government House, Asaba Thursday January 9. "The state is building a democracy that should not revolve round one person, the date of elections is not determined by the Governor, it is DSIEC and INEC that determines the date of elections at the state and national levels. It will be wrong if I determine the date of election, don't push me to do that," the governor averred.

According to the former SSG, the issue of who takes over from him will be determined by Deltans while his duty will be to provide the enabling environment.

Dr. Uduaghan also debunked media reports that he is about defecting to another political party, just as he confirmed his senatorial ambition for 2015 on the PDP platform.

He said the "unwritten zonal arrangement" in Delta South Senatorial district gives him the right as an Itsekiri to go for the senate in 2015, stressing that he will swim and die with PDP.

On the ongoing recruitment into the Delta State Civil Service, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan directed the Chief of Staff, Government House to make sure all monies that have been collected from applicants should be refunded, noting that no applicant ought to pay for the processing of their employment form into the state civil service.
