A man suspected to be member of a kidnap gang was Monday January 20 arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, Our Bomadi Correspondent reports.
The suspect identified simply as Bomienghan Abednego was whisked at the Bomadi council secretariat where he works as a typist.
According to a confidential source, Abednego had been on the SSS watch list and was picked up following an investigation linking him to a gang believed to be responsible for several kidnap threats in Bomadi area.
Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that the suspect, who is in his early thirties, is a native of Kpakiama in Bomadi local government area of Delta State.
Efforts by Fresh Angle to speak with the operatives of DSS that arrested the kidnap suspect were futile as they declined comment, just as it was gathered that other members of the gang are presently cooling off under the custody of the DSS.
Investigations reveal that some high profile personalities in Bomadi local government have become easy targets of anonymous callers, who call the mobile lines of potential kidnap victims with a threat to kidnap them or any member of their family if a specific amount is not paid to them in advance as ransom. Some of the kidnap targets have reportedly fallen victim of abduction and large sums of money were paid to their abductors for their release.
Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that staffers of Bomadi local government council were seen in groups expressing surprise how a colleague of theirs will be arrested for alleged involvement in kidnapping.
