Exclusive: Udu LG boss’ nephew, another nabbed for cultism

Two suspected cultists, Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro and Kelvin Otewoh have been arrested and handed over to the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Warri by the Aladja Community Vigilante in Udu local government area after a serious confrontation with the cultists who attempted to evade arrest, Our Senior Correspondent reports.

Fresh Angle gathered that Ekugbe Umukoro is the "capon and butcher "of the Aye Confraternity in Udu area and son to younger sister of the Transition Committee Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Mr. Raymond Edijala, while Kelvin Otewoh is from Ifiekporo Community in Warri South local government area.

The two suspects and 13 others of the cult were allegedly holding a meeting at a two bedroom flat in Ekreghware Quarters in Aladja at about 4am on the fateful day when the Aladja Community Vigilante who had been on surveillance stormed the meeting and in a bid to evade arrest, the cultists led by Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro engaged the vigilantes in serious combat with instruments such as battle axe, cutlasses, daggers, knives and broken bottles.

The vigilantes reportedly overpowered the cultists and arrested Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro and Kelvin Otewoh, while the others escaped.

Fresh Angle gathered from an impeccable source that it is from the two bedroom flat that the two cultists were arrested that they usually mobilize to go out to rape, fight, steal, cause mayhem and allegedly kill innocent indigenes of Udu.

There are speculations that  Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro allegedly shot and killed one Bomboy at Orhunwhorhun junction and one Kugbere in Ovwian Community in 2013.

In a twist however, Men of the Nigeria Police Force from Asaba have stormed Udu local government area and whisked the Udu Area Commander of vigilante groups, Hon. Prosper Erhihonjare after the mother of Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro allegedly threatened and vowed to deal with Erhihonjare after accusing him of masterminding the arrest of her son.

Unconfirmed report says the Transition Committee Chairman of Udu local government area, Hon. Raymond Edijala is allegedly behind the arrest of Hon. Prosper Erhihonjare because Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro is the son of his younger sister.

It was also gathered that the Transition Committee Chairman of Udu local government area, Mr. Raymond Edijala and Hon. Prosper Erhihonjare have not been in good terms over the monthly security vote of the council chairman which the Udu Central Vigilantes and Udu Communities’ Vigilantes Forum have been agitating for an increase to what they have being getting from the council boss.

Matters came to a head when the Transition Committee Chairman of Udu local government failed to pay the security vote for some months after an earlier promise he made to increase the security vote he was giving them from seven hundred and fifty thousand naira to one million, five hundred thousand naira.

Meanwhile, a member of the Ovwian Community Vigilante identified simply as Osama was on Saturday January 25 shot by four suspected members of Aye Confraternity.

Fresh Angle gathered from credible sources that the four suspected cultists who are believed to be allies of Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro have vowed to eliminate every member of the vigilante groups in Udu local government area as a result of the arrest of Ekugbe Kingsley Umukoro. They reportedly opened fire on the vigilantes who were on guard at a location in Ovwian, Udu local government area of Delta State.

In a related development, one Oghenewedeh Fosarhe was also shot in the face by suspected cultists in Ekreghware Quaters in Udu local government Area of Delta State between 7-9pm on Saturday January 25 at his grandmother’s place in Aladja.

He was quickly rushed to the police station in Ovwian by the Aladja Community Vigilante, where he made statements before he was later rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Warri for medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report, one Mr. Sunday was also killed by suspected cultists in Ovwian around Jigbale Market area on Sunday January 27 after they stole, injured traders and maim residents of the area in their activities.
