Ugborodo Youths petition Jonathan

Ugborodo youths under the auspices of Ugborodo Youth Council have petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan over what they described as injustice on the proposed EPZ project, querying the rationale behind Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who is not an indigene of the community to choose a committee to interface with investors and federal government agencies on behalf of Ugborodo people.

In a press statement made available to Fresh Angle Monday March 3, 2014 titled, “Mr. President Remove These injustices and Let The EPZ Gas Project in Ogidigben, Escravos move Forward”, the Ugborodo Youth Council sought to know why Ugborodo people with their traditional power structure can’t be allowed to choose a committee of its indigenes to interface with the prospective investors and the federal government agencies.

The statement which was signed by Joseph Uwawah on behalf of Ugborodo Youth Council wonders why Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan prefers “members of the Trust executive whose tenure had expired between 2008 and 2011” to interface with the prospective investors and the federal government agencies.

The statement further noted that Ugborodo Traditional Authority “always demise land”, granting a 640-acre land to Chevron in 1965, doing similar gesture to Shell in the 1970s and further land to Chevron for the expansion to accommodate EGTL, stressing that in all cases of land allocation so far done by the community in the past, it has always appointed governing council of the Trust alone without external interference.
