The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr. Idris Musa, has advised Nigerian youths to have positive mindset in all they do, saying that is the only way they can represent the country better.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that Mr. Musa, gave the advice today, Wednesday August 12, against the backdrop of this year international youth day with the theme 'Youth Engagement for Global Action'.
He stated that Nigeria greatest assets are the youths and not the resources on ground.
According to him, Nigerian youths are charting new frontiers and creating a huge technology industry on their own.
He added that Nigerian youths entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic, and creative abilities are things of pride to the nation and would always be appreciated and nurtured by the present government in Kogi State and that of the federal level.
The commissioner for sport while describing youths as future leaders that would make a difference in the political space of the Nigeria further admonished them not be used as agent of destruction in the country, but rather stand against all social vices that is detrimental to social development.
He noted that social vices such as kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, insurgency among others should be condemned by all youths adding that, the present government under the leadership of Alhaji Yahaya Bello would continued to provide employment opportunity for youths in Kogi state.
The sport commissioner who described this year event as unique amidst the corona virus pandemic charged Nigerian youths to always be on the forefront towards advocating for a better society.
Mr. Musa, averred further that the theme for this year event is timely tasking Nigerian youths to always observe the covid-19 protocols set by the Nigeria center for disease control as part of measure to prevent the scourge of the virus.
"Corona virus is real. The youths should not relent in sensitizing the public on the need to be acquainted on the safety precautions to prevent this deadly virus. It is important that youths should not relent in sensitizing the general public on the need for regular hand watching, use of face mask, hand sanitizers, and many more to combat the spread of the virus that is currently ravaging the world today.
"The Government of Kogi State will continued to prioritize the welfare of the youths. We won't relent on this. The ministry of youths and sport under my leadership will leave no stone unturned to see that all youths are taken off the street and empowered".
The International Youth Day is a United Nations -designated day, where youths from different countries engage in events and discussions on socio-economic and socio-political issues affecting their lives.
In 1999, the UN General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, in Lisbon, that August 12, be declared International Youth Day.
