We surpassed Egypt, Ethiopia in intolerance, Shehu Sani pokes as CAMA controversy rages
Senator, Shehu Sani

Controversial Senator, Shehu Sani, says Nigeria has surpassed Egypt and Ethiopia in intolerance, hatred and fanaticism in the name of religion.

Senator Sani, whose comment came this morning amid the raging controversy over the newly signed amended Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, said Egypt and Ethiopia are the only African Countries mentioned in the Holy Qur'an and the Bible.

According to him, both countries embraced Islam and Christianity long before ancestors in Nigeria did, asking: "Why are they (Egypt and Ethiopia) like that and we (Nigerians) are like this?"

Religious leaders across Nigeria, cutting across Christianity and Islam, have heavily criticized the CAMA recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The act provides for some kind of regulations, which allows government to interfere in the running of faith - based organizations and other NGOs in the event of apparent financial impropriety.
