In what is an apparent reaction to comments credited to Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and some PDP stalwarts in the media in the past few weeks to the effect that there is only one political party in Delta State, a Warri based Lawyer and Peace Building Consultant, Barr. Robinson Ariyo has described the statements “as very dangerous early warning signs of violence looking forward to the 2015 general election”.

The legal practitioner cum House of Assembly hopeful in the 2015 elections in an electronic mail sent to Fresh Angle advised Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan “to know that he is first the Governor of the State before being a member of the PDP as his constitutional obligation is not towards the PDP but towards the State”.

He added, “It is a constitutional right of the citizens of this great country to hold opinions and associate with political ideologies towards which they feel inclined. It is sad that we are gradually becoming unable to differentiate between democratic rule and military rule in this State as citizens are no longer free to express and/or hold different political views from that of the State Governor and his associates”.

Barr. Ariyo advised the Governor and his associates to act with maturity by retracting such comments and tendering unreserved apology to the people of Delta State, especially those that are not members of the PDP, stressing that, “even if there is only one person in Delta State who does not belong to PDP but belongs to any other party, by virtue of the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the African Charter on Human and People’s Right, United Nations Declaration on Human Rights such a person is entitled to some level of respect hence it is said that even if majority will have their way, minorities must have their say”.

He went on to refer to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as a refined gentleman who will never approve of this kind of misguided statements, urging governor Uduaghan and other PDP leaders of the state not to damage the image of the President by purporting to act in his favour. “This is a case of representing oneself to be more catholic than the Pope” He said.

Robinson Ariyo also condemned the destruction of some emblems and posters belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) at Ubeji in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State by alleged supporters of the Governor and his associates.
