Anyone who has been following the activities of Delta State government for the past one year would have observed that a new slogan “Finishing Strong” has eclipsed the three point agenda of Human Capital and Infrastructural Development as well as Peace and Security which was the echo that greeted every one’s ear during Governor Uduaghan’s first tenure and the first half of this second tenure.
Whether or not the Human Capital, Infrastructural Development as well as Peace and Security agenda of the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration was or has been reasonably achieved remains an issue for public discourse and not one this piece can categorically make a definite statement on.
The creation of the new slogan “Finishing Strong” has left critics of the Uduaghan administration to insinuate that the governor’s new agenda is a subtle acknowledgement that not much was achieved in the first six years of the administration, especially in terms of infrastructural development.
The critics are quick to cite ongoing infrastructural developments across the state in the last one year compared to a near lack of major visible infrastructural projects before the present infrastructural pursuit as reason for their argument.
While these critics are also quick to commend the governor in health, transportation and perhaps micro credits, they hold the view strongly that the first six years of the Uduaghan administration was a flop in terms of infrastructure, hence the new infrastructural push christened “Finishing Strong”.
Maybe those who coined the slogan gave a loophole for the critics to feast on, but the overall performance of the Uduaghan administration which will be judged by the “people’s court” at the end of the governor’s tenure in 2015 will be an issue for another day.
It is also pertinent for those in government or supporters of the governor to put up a solid defence to counter critics’ position on Governor Uduaghan’s infrastructural development for the first six years of his administration and damn the governor’s critics.
