Okowa reiterates his commitment to an indivisible Delta State

As the 2015 general elections draw closer, the need for Deltans to remain vigilant and focused in electing the right person as governor of Delta State has been reiterated.

The call was made by a governorship hopeful in the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa during consultation with a political pressure group, Warri Political Forum in Ubeji, Warri South local government of Delta State.

Senator Okowa noted that it was the responsibility of every Deltan to ensure that the right leadership was put in place in 2015, by electing a governor that would ensure that all parts of the state were given equal opportunity that could guarantee even development of the entire state.

He said that no part of the state will be left behind in the scheme of things, adding that it was wrong for anybody to use ethnicity to deceive Deltans in the pursuit of his or her political aspiration, and reiterated his commitment to all Deltans.

"No aspirant can say that he or she loves the Itsekiris, Urhobos, Isokos, Ijaws, or Anioma more than I do. I have related and worked closely with people from all parts of the state in the different political offices I have held. And I will continue in that stead. Because, for me, it is one Delta State. We are one big united family that can never be divided by politics or ethnicity. And I do sincerely believe I have the capacity to effectively and positively relate with all and make all work together for the good and progress of our dear state," he stated.

Senator Okowa, who said that he believes in equity, fairness, justice and oneness of Delta State, condemned what he called, 'satanic rumours and lies' being propagated by some persons, saying that, "the situation at hand does not call for sentiment but meeting reality. He urged Deltans to be wary of the numerous rumours, lies and campaign of calumny flying around, saying that such was the handiwork of those who do not wish the state well.

He called on Deltans to x-ray aspirants for the governorship position based on experience, capability, records of past performance and general acceptability, as according to him, "there are a lot of us in the race, and we are all qualified."

According to him, "We should look at certain things and criteria. Beyond the person having knowledge and experience we also need capacity. Our focus should be on somebody who has the needed experience, and is on ground with the people.

Somebody who understands the peculiarities and circumstances of our people and communities. I may not be the best in everybody's judgment, but our people should weigh us (aspirants) judiciously and dispassionately, adding that, "I have a past you can relate with. And in judging that past, be honestly objective,"

He promised that if given the mandate to govern Delta State, he would pilot the affairs of the state in partnership with the people, saying that, "because I have been with the people and we understand ourselves and communities and the leaders, we will continue to respect them. And together we will build the state, as I believe it is a partnership,"

He hailed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for the many achievements recorded by his administration in the last 7 years. "There is no doubt that in the last 7 years we have had a wonderful administration. And because of that every Deltan should desire somebody that can continue the good work, “he added.

Responding, the leader of the group, Hon. Omimi Enquire thanked Senator Okowa for the visit and commended him for deeming it wise to consult with Deltans. He described Senator Okowa as an eminent son of Delta State, who is well known to the people of the state, as a humble and honest person. And wished him well in his aspiration.
