Disband Market Unions that observe sit-at-home order, Ohanaeze Youth body tells South-East Governors

The umbrella body of Igbo youths worldwide, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has called on Governors of South-East to disband Market Unions in the region that obey the October 1 sit-at-home directive by the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.

OYC, in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and forwarded to media houses today, Friday September 25, distanced Igbo youths from the IPOB directive and reiterated its stand on one and indivisible Nigeria.

The socio-cultural organization, also warned security agencies against extra judicial killings of innocent Igbo youths in whatever guise and further urged agitating youths, not to take laws into their hands by challenging armed security agents.

It would be recalled that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday September 23, called on Nigerians from the South-East to observe a sit-at-home on October 1, 2020.

IPOB said the sit-at-home order was aimed at expressing displeasure over the perceived bad governance being experienced in Nigeria.

In the statement issued by its Spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB called for total lockdown on October 1.

However, the Presidency through its Spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, yesterday, accused the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB of embarking on a global campaign against Nigeria.

OYC called on President Muhammadu Buhari to use the 60th Anniversary of Nigeria's Independence to promote genuine reconciliation and peace by de-proscribing IPOB as a terrorist organisation and grant Presidential pardon to all Prisoners of Conscience.
