The Federal Government has been urged to reconstruct the Effurun-Sapele - Benin Road as the road has become a death trap for commuters.

 

The member Representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal constituency Hon. Efe Afe, made the appeal when he played host to Urhobo Youth leaders Association at his country home in Orerokpe, Okpe local Government Area.

 

Hon. Afe, while addressing the Urhobo Youths Leaders stressed that the Effurn-Sapele-Benin road has become a night mare for road users.

 

He lamented how most comutters have to sleep on the road from Benin to warri which is supposed to be less than an hour journey,stressing that armed robbers have taken advantage of the bad portions of the road to rob unsuspected innocent citizens.

 

Hon. Afe, stated most persons bringing in goods to Delta State through Benin road are beginning to think otherwise due to the deplorable road.

 

He enjoined the Federal Government to rehabilitate or reconstruct the over 20 years old road to enable businesses to thrive in Delta State.

"The roads were contracted twenty years ago with little or no maintenance,Delta State is where the federal government generate more revenue from so we deserve good road network he said."

 

On the issue of Sapele Seaport, Hon. Afe, said he has sponsored a bill for the federal government to revive the seaport as it will help decongest the Apapa and Tincan Seaports at Lagos.

He added that the sapele seaport when revived would provide jobs for jobless youths.

 

He said it is fair and just for an urhobo man to become the next Governor of Delta State come 2023 and pledged to support the urhobo interest at all times.

 

Eariler some urhobo youth leaders including chief Tony Ofoni, Chief Vincent Oyibode, Chief Western Adegor, amongst others have enjoined the federal lawmaker to support the call for Delta Central to produce the next Governor of Delta State as it is fair and just following the agreed rotational zoning process in the state.

 

They urged Hon. Afe to support their fight against the federal government increment of Electricity and Fuel Tarrif as it would further cause hardship on Nigerians.

 

They also condemned the purported railway construction from Nigeria to Niger Republic and called for True federalism system of Government in the country.

 

The urhobo youths leaders enjoined Hon Afe to continue to give his constituents a positive representation at the National Assembly.

 

They urged Youths in the State to take advantage of Delta State University Urhobo degree Programme.
