The World Health Organization, WHO, has revealed that one-in-three women around the world, experienced physical or sexual abuse, stressing the need to end violence against women and girls.
WHO, which made the revelation in a terse statement to mark this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, listed husbands, boyfriends, intimate partners, lovers, parents, relatives, colleagues, bosses and strangers as the categories of people responsible for the physical or sexual violence against women.
The statement obtained by Fresh Angle International from the Twitter handle of WHO, this morning, stated inter-alia: “#DYK: 1-in-3 women around the Worldexperience physical or sexual violence by:
A husband
A boyfriend
An intimate partner
A lover
A parent
A relative
A colleague
A boss
A stranger”.
