Nigeria’s crude oil, gas production to plummet by 30,000 bpd, 56 million cubic daily

Nigeria’s oil and gas sector may suffer further decline in production by 30,000bpd and 56 million cubic gas daily, if the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Group Managing Director, GMD of NNPC, NAPIMS and Ministry of Labour and Employment, fail to direct the management of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation, to pay its rolled over staff their severance package not later than 48hrs, effective Monday December 7.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that this was a fallout of threat to shut-down all operations of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation (Nigeria) Limited, by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASAN.

The threat was handed down at Pan Ocean Field at Ovade, Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, during the NUPENGASSAN Joint Union Peaceful Protest to press forward their demands for better welfare and payment of all entitlements due them by the management of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation and the Federal Government through NNPC, NAPIMS and other relevant agencies.

According to the Chairman of NUPENG Pan Ocean Oil Corporation, Comrade Aboy Udi and his PENGASSAN counterpart, Comrade Rex Aibangbee, OML 98, “which belongs to Pan Ocean Oil Corporation license was revoked and reissued to NPDC by DPR, without settling workers”, hence the peaceful protest, demanding for total payment of severance and remittances of over 33 months pension owed the affected workers, before NPDC can take over operation of OML 98 and roll over workers, saying NPDC has already started working in the facility.

Fresh Angle International understands that the Pan Ocean Oil Corporation Field at Ovade in Oghara, if shutdown would affect other companies and the gas plant supplying Egbin Power Station, will be negatively affected.

The Operations Base Office of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation situated at KM 10 Sapele Road, Benin City and the Ovade - Ogharefe Gas Plant Processing Facility & Flow-Station in Ovade, Oghara, Delta State, will also be affected 

Comrades Udi and Aibangbee, explained that when NPDC took over other fields in same Delta State, they rolled over workers and they were paid their severance without any issue, pointing out that for about seven months after signing agreement on payment of their severances with Federal Government through Ministry of Labour and Employment, NNPC, NAPIMS, no commitment have been shown to honour the agreement, despite series of reminder letters written to the GMD of NNPC, Mele Kyari.

The NUPENG National PRO, Comrade Cogent Ojobor and PENGASSAN Warri Zonal Council Vice Chairman, Comrade Prince Audu Peter Oshiokhamele, NUPENGASSAN National President, Williams Eniredonana Akporehe and PENGASSAN National President, Comrade, Comrade Osifo Festus, unanimously handed down the ultimatum.
