The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, says the leadership of Arewa Consultative Students’ Forum on Wednesday December 30, allegedly told them at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during the activities marking the 42nd birthday of Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths, that: “It's the turn of Igbos to rule Nigeria and Engr. Dave Umahi (Ebonyi State Governor) is the best choice for the South-East”.
According to a statement credited to the Secretary- General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the leader of the Arewa group, Comrade Mohammed Yusuf, allegedly cried out over the continuous insecurity challenges in the Northern part of the country and insisted that, “only an Igbo President would cure the insecurity situation in Nigeria".
The statement emphasized: “Igbos are blessed with abundance of human resources to pilot the affairs of Nigeria by 2023 and Governor of Ebonyi State is a nice testimonial result of good governance and infrastructural development, if given opportunity to be President Muhammadu Buhari's successor in 2023, Umahi will do well as President, it's the turn of Igbos to rule Nigeria and Engr. Dave Umahi is the best choice for South-East”.
OYC cautioned Imo State Government: “Not to hijack Ohanaeze elections over the fear of Supreme Court case against Imo governor, Hope Uzodinma, there are evidences that the current crisis rocking the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Imo State chapter, which led to the impeachment of the State President, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, was caused by the unlawful imposition of Amb. George Obiozor on the members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Imo State chapter as consensus candidate for President General unconstitutionally”, adding: “Plans to install Obiozor as next leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is attempts by Imo State Government Officials to invade the Office of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and exploit his (Gambari's) long standing relationship with Amb. George Obiozor for the political survival of Imo State Governor in APC and on the recent review of his Governorship case before the Supreme Court”.
