The Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE has ended the year 2020 on a bullish note, with market capitalization increasing to N38.5tn as at 30 December 2020, compared to N25.89tn in 2019.
The figure obtained few minutes ago from the verified twitter handle of NSE by Fresh Angle International, indicated an increase of N12.61tn, despite challenges posed by the Coronavirus plague.
The Divisional Head, Shared Services of NSE, Bola Adeeko, made the disclosure on behalf of the National Council and Management of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, during the Closing Gong Ceremony to commemorate the last trading day of 2020.
While noting that the NSE ASI crossed the N20 trillion mark with a YTD return of 47.2%, Adeeko, noted: “2020 has been an eventful year for the Nigerian capital market and specifically for us. Despite the economic impact of COVID-19, we have remained resilient in providing stakeholders a platform to raise capital and invest.
“We have also continued to provide a platform to support listed companies in meeting their strategic business objectives as demonstrated in the over N1 trillion raised by Governments and Corporates across various asset classes YTD.
“We continue to support the fight against the spread of COVID-19, devoting N100 Million - N60 Million to the Capital Market Support Committee for COVID (CMSCC) & N40 million to the #MasksForAllNigerians campaign”.
