First tech-driven butchery shop opens in Warri

·         A business outlet that can arguably be described as the first tech-driven butchery shop in Warri, Delta State, Carlton Mart, will be formally inaugurated come Sunday January 31, Fresh Angle International can exclusively report.

This Newspaper understands that Carlton Mart, is a subsidiary of Carlton Mega Farms.

The Chief Operating Officer, COO of Carlton Mart, Temitope Bojoh (Mrs.) in a telephone chat with Our Editor-In-Chief, explained: “Carlton Mart will deal basically on Meats, Spices and Veggies.  We have a physical walk-in-outlet at No. 19, Ekpen Street, Okere, Warri. However, we place more emphasis on our online shop, www.carltonmart.com. Our desire is to attain 70% online purchase and 30% through our outlet”.

She emphasized: “As a deviation from existing meat shops, we have an agreement with a logistics company to deliver all orders to respective customers’ destination. Our online portal is equipped with payment gateways. We also plan to accept orders through social media platforms, sms, phone calls and emails”.

On strategies to mitigate the effect of near-zero public power supply, Bojoh enthused: “We have a standby 12.5KVA generator to complement the public electricity infrastructure and intend installing solar panels and inverters, to ensure constant power supply.

“We plan to dispatch our rider twice daily. That is, all products ordered before 9:45am, will be dispatched by 10am. And those ordered after 9:45am, will go out by 2pm. However, we are flexible and compassionate on this policy, hence, we can also do an emergency delivery when the need arises.

“For every delivery, there is a charge. Depending on the quantity demanded and the ability to pay the delivery charges, we are prepared to deliver to any area”.

When asked about the hygienic situation of where the pieces of meat for sale would be slaughtered, the COO of Carlton Mart, responded: “That's an area we are out to address. Upon arrival of our cow, goat or lamb, we do medical checks to ascertain suitability.  Our slaughter platform is built 1.5ft above ground level. Then we spread a tarpaulin on the platform before slaughter.  At the showroom, our staff have been tested and vaccinated on various food handling parameters, they have been trained on safe food handling and safety at the meat shop. We have insect catchers in place to trap insects. We have service hand-gloves for handling of food items. There is an odour/heat extractor in place functionally ok. We have thermometer in place for regular checks on the freezers and meats. The temperature of every fresh meat for inward supply are checked first before acceptance.  There is a standby cleaner in place for regular cleaning of the environment”.

“Basically we operate Monday through Saturday, 7am to 6pm. However, due to our online presence, we are prepared to handle some emergency orders, outside our official working hours/days.

“We have our functional website with payment gateway on www.carltonmart.com, we can be reached through our email Carltonmart1@gmail.com, our social media handles; Twitter: @carlton_mart, FB: @CarltonMartNG, IG: @carltonmart_NG, on voice call, sms and WhatsApp on 09046443445”.
