URHOBO PROGRESS UNION (UPU)  AND  IJAW, ISOKO & ITSEKIRI LEADERS FORUM  COMMUNIQUÉ


 

 

A well attended meeting of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) and the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri Leaders Forum of Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts respectively was held at the country home of the President-General of the UPU, Chief (Maj. Gen.) Patrick N. Aziza (rtd) CFR, Mni, Psc (+) at Adagbrasa-Ugolo in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, on Friday, June 20, 2014.

 

 

2.         The President-General of the UPU, Chief (Maj. Gen.) Patrick N. Aziza, CFR, Mni, Psc(+) and Chief C. Abeki (the Chairman of the Ijaw, Isoko & Itsekiri Leaders Forum) sent apologies for their absence.

 

 

3.         The meeting was co-chaired by Chief Joe Omene (the first Deputy President-General of UPU) and Chief D. A. Etaluku (1st Vice Chairman of the Ijaw, Isoko & Itsekiri Leaders Forum).

 

 

4.         At the close of the meeting, the following resolutions were adopted:

 

i.          That the Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities are tied together by common culture and inter-marriages from time immemorial. As neighbours, they live on the same geographical terrain and share common fate and destiny arising from the oil and gas explored and extracted from their land.

 

ii.          The Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities have resolved to live and work together in peace and unity based on mutual respect and trust towards attaining the goals, dreams and aspirations of all the people of Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts that have suffered neglect inspite of its huge contribution to the development of Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general.

 

iii.         To pursue collectively, using the abundant natural resources with which the two (2) Senatorial Districts have been endowed by God Almighty, to enhance the living standard/condition of their people through purposeful leadership at all levels.

 

iv.        The Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities will henceforth meet regularly to realize the objectives set forth.
