Otunana, Makaraba Fields are in our land, Omadino Community replies Gbaramatu Youths
Mr. Armstrong Omaretsuli Yomere

The people of Omadino Community in Warri South, whose," land also spreads to Warri South - West Local Government Area in Delta State", say Otunana and Markaraba Oil Fields operated by multinational oil and gas giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL are in their land.

Omadino indigenes in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International this weekend, said they gave Gulf now Chevron Nigeria Limited the said lands to operate in the presence of the then Olu of Warri , adding that occupants of the lands are under the overlordship of the Olu of Warri kingdom.

The position of Omadino Community, is contrary to claims by Gbaramatu Ijaw Youths, who even warned the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to conduct the JIV of the areas affected by the recent oil spillage with them alone, accusing the General Manager, PGPA of the company, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn of taking sides with his Itsekiri kinsmen.

The Public Relations Officer of Omadino Community Management Committee, Mr. Armstrong Omaretsuli Yomere, who authored the statement on behalf of the oil - rich town, averred that people of Omadino will adequately respond to all, " the false claims and write - ups by some youths of Gbaramatu later. We are mourning the transition of our king for now, Gbamaratu Kingdom should not encroach into Warri Kingdom, the Ijaws of Gbaramatu have tried in so many ways to collect lands legally and historically belonging to Omadino. They went to lower and highest courts, they lost, they forcefully rename our communities with corrupt names they used in competent courts and they lost".

Yomere, added: "We are not going to join issues with the Gbaramatu ijaws over land ownership, because it has already been decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, we are compelling Chevron and Nigeria Government to obey and respect the rule of law (Supreme Court judgement) enough is enough".

The Omadino Image Maker, advised the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to as a matter of urgency conduct a Joint Investigation, JIV over the crude oil spill that impacted communities in Omadino without further delay, in order to address the destruction of aquatic lives resulting from the spill purportedly caused by failure of Chevron's facility.

He urged other affected communities to participate in the JIV, so that all impacted communities can benefit.
