Illicit drugs: NDLEA shut down brothel in Lokoja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kogi State command has shut down Central  brothel in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, after some hoodlums attacked a journalist with Grace FM, Mr. Tunde Odimayo, after he reported the illicit sale of Indian hemps and other dangerous hard drugs  within brothel premises.

It was gathered that the suspected hoodlums numbering about five attacked the journalist last week Friday, accusing him of exposing the brothel (Central) of dealing with Indian Hemps and other dangerous drug.

The report which was aired on a private radio station Grace 95.5FM Lokoja, did not go down well with the suspected drug baron as they said such story will destroy their Indian hemp business.

During the attack, it was learnt that the investigative journalist was beaten to coma and later rushed to an undisclosed hospital were groups of medical experts made efforts to revive him.

The brothel according to sources is allegedly  known for housing criminal elements, who sees there as their safe haven for their nefarious activities within Lokoja metropolis.

The closure of Central brothel has brought a sign of relief within residents in the area, who told Our Correspondent that people within the vicinity over the years have lived with fears because of the presence of bad elements coming to the brothel to enjoy themselves.

A residents of the area who gives his name as Ajogun, commended NDLEA and other security agencies for taking this bold step, stressing that, "series of atrocities is being committed in this brothel, but nothing has been done because of fear of the unknown. We have been living in fear within this area just because of this brothel.

" I must tell you, it takes the grace of God to raise a child in this place. We see different things in this place. Imagine, this place is the hub of Indians hemps distribution and other dangerous drugs. Aside this, the sex hackers that our children are seeing on daily basis calls for concerns as it is not the best way to teach a child about the morality of life.

" Last year, a security personnel was killed in this central brothel by this bad boys who come here to by and smoke this Indian hemp and other dangerous drug. Many lives have been lost.

"It seems the attack on this journalist was a blessing in disguise  to liberate us from this evil act perpetuated by this bad boys who are coming to central hotel to cause havoc in our area. Can you imagine, when it is 8PM, you cant work freely within this area or this bad guys will rob you of all your belonging. We can no longer continue like this. The appropriate authority should not open this brothel again to prevent this guise from assembling again for this illicit drug business".

Meanwhile, two suspects are currently cooling off in the Police net for attacking the investigative journalist with Grace FM Lokoja.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ovye Aya, disclosed this when a non-governmental organization, Initiative for Grassroot Advancement, INGRA, paid him a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Lokoja.

DSP William Aya said the police are working round the clock to arrest all the hoodlums behind the attack.
