A medical practitioner, who preferred anonymity for professional reasons, has raised alarm over increasing cases of rape at Ogbe Secondary School, along the PTI Express Road, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, saying over 15 young ladies were maliciously gang raped and brutalized within the last one week.
The medic, identified simply as Dr. Martins, told Our Managing Editor/Co-Publisher, weekend: “Within the last couple of weeks in Warri, Effurun to be precise, the medical community has recorded increased number of robbery of mostly young girls by Keke (tricycle) riders around the Shoprite to PTI Junction Area of Effurun, occurring usually between the hours of 7 pm and beyond. There (Ogbe Secondary School) other gang members converge to dispossess the victims of all valuables and phones especially, after vicious tortures!
“These pre planned robberies occur, even if a Keke is chartered, they divert the unsuspecting victim off the PTI Highway into uncompleted buildings or the deserted Ogbe Grammar (Secondary) School, along the PTI Express Road at knife-point or gunpoint!
“I am not talking about what is happening in Sambisa forest in Borno State, but right here in the City of Warri! 90% of the time, these young ladies (victims) are maliciously gang raped and brutalized!
“Several reports made by victims to police yielded no positive results. As at yesterday, Saturday May 8, another victim presented at a friend's clinic, with the same rape story at Ogbe Grammar (Secondary) School premises! You are lucky, if you leave without maiming your body or killed and private parts removed for ritual purposes!
“These are the ones that have the courage to report and seek medical help! I am also aware that many more victims out of fear of stigmatization, remain silent about their ordeal and suffer psychological trauma!
“No fewer than 15 cases, which reported to hospitals occurred just this past week alone!
Two young ladies, I personally attended to are now a Shadow of themselves! With antecedent depression imminent!
“I am using this medium to call on those who have the temerity and connections to prevail on the law enforcement agents, to raid those known crime hideouts and bring those bastard perpetrators to justice!
“Even lady car owners, have been double-crossed, hijacked and raped too! After robbing them of their valuables!
“I was on the phone to the parent of the latest assault of rape yesterday night (Saturday May 8) in tears, lamenting that her 18-year old daughter (a Virgin) who was gang-raped under similar circumstances whilst returning from JAMB lessons, by criminals in a Keke she boarded. She attempted suicide this morning (Sunday May 9) at their residence in Otokutu, by trying to consume an overdose of her father's BP drugs, as I am talking to you now, she is unconscious in a nearby clinic at Ebrumede, near Otokutu!! What a catastrophe!”
