A Community leader in Ifiekporo, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Monoyo Edon, has hit hard on the Chairman of Concerned Indigenes of OML 150 Communities, Mr. Otomewo Omereyemi, over his call on the Management of Con Oil Nigeria Plc, to stop dealing with the Comrade Monday Agbeyi led executive of OML 150 Consultative Forum, saying Mr. Omereyemi, “is ignorant of the internal politics of the Forum”.
Comrade Edon, who responded to a publication made on This Newspaper yesterday, Wednesday May 26, by Mr. Otomewo Omereyemi: “Challenged Mr. Omereyemi and his faceless group to quote the complete clause of zoning in the Forum’s constitution”, adding: “He is quoting an incomplete section of the constitution”.
In a statement made available exclusively to Fresh Angle International this morning, Thursday May 27, Comrade Edon, likened the position of Omereyemi: “To the other mother in 1kings 3:16-28 (CEV) who tussled with another woman, the real mother of a child she sought custody before King Solomon in the Bible. When King Solomon ordered that the child be split in halves and shared to the quarreling mothers, the woman shouted, ‘Go ahead and cut him in half. Then neither of us will have the baby.”
Edon, stressed: “The above scenario is what Mr. Otomewo Omereyemi and his co travelers want with the Con Oil Forum. They stand to lose nothing if the Forum continues to be embroiled in needless bickering and lawsuits. Otherwise, how do you explain Otomewo’s mentioning the authentic Monday Agbeyi-led Executive in the same breath as the expired Charles Omadeli’s tenure in his petition to Con Oil Producing LTD not to listen to the Executive of the Forum? An executive his community is adequately represented?
“Perhaps, Otomewo is ignorant of the internal politics of the Forum. Let me remind Mr. Otomewo that his Olare-Aja was among the 7 Olare-Ajas of the Forum that gave endorsement and blessings to the Monday Agbeyi-led Executive. If there was issue with the composition of the executive of the Forum, the communities including his community would have raised objections prior to the inauguration of the forum earlier in the year.
“Again, I should remind Mr. Otomewo that after the seven communities make their three-man nominations into the Forum. Whoever becomes leader of the executive is heavily dependent on the strength of negotiation and lobbying prowess of the members.
“He should tell the public the number of terms each community will take before it is zoned to another community. Is he not aware of the zoning arrangement in Delta State, wherein each senatorial district takes two terms before it goes to another senatorial district?. The likes of Otomewo are the problem of this Itsekiri Nation. This is the same person Perhaps he may have forgotten that one of the former chairmen of the Forum, Mr. Austin Oniyesan from Omadino community, was at the helm for about 9 years. When Comr. Monday Agbeyi finishes his tenure, Ifiekporo community would have been chairman of the Forum for eight years -a year shy of Omadino’s nine through Mr. Oniyesan.
“I do not know what music Mr. Otomewo is trying to play in this matter. This is the same person earlier supporting Mr. Charles Omadeli for a second tenure. Now that Mr. Omadeli is losing grip, he wants to play the spoiler role. The Olare Ajas/ heads of all the concerned communities including Otomewo's community have resolved on two terms of eight years per Community before rotation since there was a lacuna in the constitution. Except he has been commissioned by Mr. Charles Omadeli or a fifth columnist to play the spoiler role, otherwise event has long overtaken his petition. Why wait for Mr. Charles Omadeli to stir the water before making this petition?
“All members of the 7-member communities that make up the Con Oil Producing Ltd should ignore his ill-conceived petition and join hands with the Comr. Monday Agbeyi-led executive to fight and bring all the benefits accruing to the Forum. Benefits that will duly get to each of the 7 communities through their nominated Reps”.
