Why Boro is Warri South-West PDP Chairman-ICM

As the controversy rages over who produce the next Chairman of Warri South-West local government in the October 25, 2014 local government polls, Pan Itsekiri socio-cultural group, Itsekiri Consolidated Movement, ICM has bare fang on those against the power rotation agreement between Itsekiri and Ijaw of Warri South-West local government, describing their argument as “mere emotions bereft of basic knowledge of PDP politicking in Warri South-West”.

The ICM in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri shortly after an emergency meeting, averred that it was as a result of the power sharing arrangement that Chief Ayirimi Emami, an Itsekiri stepped down as Chairman of PDP Warri South-West and Chief Boro Opudu, an Ijaw became the party chairman to pave way for Itsekiris in PDP to produce the next local government chairman.

The statement signed by ICM Chairman and Public Relations Officer, Messrs  Oritsegbemi Besidone  and Franklin Metsese reads in part. “it is quite unfortunate that people who are neither members of PDP or know little about the party will make inciting statements regarding the party’s rotation principle for the records, when Chief Ayirimi Emami was the PDP Chairman in Warri South-West, an Ijaw man, George Ekpemupolo emerged the local government chairman based on consensus of a single tenure each and it was against this backdrop that Chief Emami stepped down as party chairman, while Chief Boro Opudu took over to pave the way for Itsekiri to produce the next local government chairman”.

The Itsekiri group stressed the need for all PDP members at every level of government to always respect political agreements “so as not to unnecessarily heat up the polity”.
