The Bayelsa State Government, BYSG and the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture, have called for collaboration in the fight against the twin evil of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Fresh Angle International can report that they made the call Thursday June 24 at Dodo River, CRDA Secretariat New GRA, Kpansia - Yenegoa in Bayelsa State, during the 9TH Annual General Meeting of Chevron funded Dodo River Communities’ Rural Development Association, DRCRDA.

The Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa State Ministry of Mineral Resources, Mrs. Hannah Amasuomo, who represented the State Government, urged the Dodo River Communities’ Rural Development Association, DRCRDA, to combat crude oil theft in the state, asserting that the vandals are people, “who live amongst us in our communities”.

 

The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, who was represented by the Coordinator of Community Engagement, Chevron, Mr. Eli Jah Bikikoro, stated: “Although this is a tough time for the Oil and Gas industry globally, Chevron most take its role as a Corporate citizen in Nigeria.

 

"We also need to work together, so as to checkmate the activities of oil theft and vandals, who are responsible for most of the pollution in our waters.

 

"We support global efforts to reduce flaring and carbon emissions and in furtherance of this, continue to invest in our operations to improve environmental performance, while working with industry to develop new innovations and best practices".

 

The Chairman of Dodo River Communities’ Rural Development Association, DRCRDA, Mr. Francis Amamogiran, had earlier highlighted benefits of the association to include; continuation of town hall projects, building of library projects for primary and secondary schools, community concrete walkway project and successful payment of scholarship to beneficiaries.
