FG to introduce new Family Planning Methodology to reach more Nigerians, Mamora reveals


 

The Federal Government will soon introduce new family planning methodology system, that will benefit more reproductive Nigerians in need of the service and care, Fresh Angle International, can report.

 

 

This much was disclosed Thursday July 1, by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, during the National Family Planning Online Media Campaign Launch, organized by Rotary Reproductive Maternal and Child Health, RMCH.

 

The Minister, noted that Family Planning, FP, was an important intervention for promoting proper timing and spacing of pregnancies as well as assisting to achieve pregnancies, where challenges exist.

 

He added that family planning, will also promote maternal and child survival with a potential for reducing maternal and child mortality as well as morbidity by 30 per cent, saying, with  successful implementation, it will stand as key to achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

 

According to Dr. Mamora, the Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate Subcutaneous Injection (DMPA-SC) which has been formulated to allow for self-injection, is considered a game-changer in Nigeria's Family Planning Landscape, adding that it is indeed very useful for ensuring continuation of subsequent doses in hard-to-reach areas, as clients could be given some vials to take home after some training on its use.

 

The  Rotary, Reproductive Maternal and Child Health, RMCH, Coordinator, Prof. Emmanuel Lufadeju, stressed that the overall goal for the training, was to inform and educate all sexually active women and men, that they could freely access family planning products and services in the country.

 

Prof. Lufadeju, solicited for Journalists’ support in sustaining the advocacy for enlightenment campaign, in order to reach all sexually active men and women in Nigeria.

 

He noted that Nigeria is leading the chart as far as child maternity rate the world is concerned, saying, there's nothing wrong with the use of contraceptives, stressing the need for child spacing to be applied in checking increase in population and demographic planning of developing countries like Nigerian.

 

There was projection from resource persons and features writers that by 2050, Nigeria’s population will reach about 402 million, if something urgent is not done in checking increase in child bearing, through Family planning.

 

According to him, only 15 percent of women, married and unmarried, are aware of the use of contraceptives

 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs. Adaora Anyanwutaku, explained that the campaign would go a long way to educate and enlighten all sexually active women and men, to access family planning products and services.

 

Our Senior Correspondent reports that Mrs. Anyanwutaku, noted that the media campaign was targeted at the entire populace, using the multi-media channels such as  TV, Fresh Angle International, posters, fliers, billboards, brochures, audio messaging, churches and mosques.

 

“You will agree with me that there is an increasing level of maternal morbidity and mortality, resulting from childbirth and pregnancy complications.

 

"The public campaign by the media and stakeholders, would contribute to realization of better and smaller manageable families".

 

She stressed that the combination of the media organizations, will help reduce pregnancy complications substantially and improve the health status of "our mothers and their children".

 

The training, attended by Fresh Angle International’s Senior Correspondent, Celestine Ukah and Ese Omu of Delta State Broadcasting Service, Warri, commenced Thursday July 1 and ended Saturday July 3.
