Police nabs robbery kingpin six months after manhunt


The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force ‘A’ Division, Asaba have arrested a suspected armed robbery kingpin, Ekene Amieke six months after a manhunt was launched to track him, Fresh Angle can authoritatively report.

The suspect, Ekene Amieke who has since confessed to his involvement in past robbery operations within Anwai/Mile ‘5’/Ugbolu and environs near Asaba, the Delta State Capital is believed to be the leader of a robbery gang.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, the arrest of Amieke is sequel to a tip off which was followed by operatives of the Special Anti- Kidnapping Squad.

Men of the Command had on January 23, 2014 arrested one Charles Maduabuchi and four other members of the gang. The suspects allegedly confessed to their criminal activities and named Ekene Amieke as their gang leader.

Fresh Angle learnt that the suspects have since been charged to court, while efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

Meanwhile, a team of Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba at about 0700 hours on Tuesday August 5 arrested one Sylvester Akere, aged 30, 28-year old Henry Ifeanyi and Gift Nnwfejakwu, for alleged burglary.

The suspects who were arrested in a bush around Maryam Babangida road, Asaba reportedly confessed during interrogation of being guilty of burglary and terrorizing DLA/Maryam Babangida road as well as Summit areas, Asaba.

They reportedly revealed how they burgled a business centre, tailoring and laundry shops along DLA road in Asaba.

The owners of the shops burgled Tuesday August 5 have since identified their properties found in the possession of the buglers.

Items recovered from the three suspects include one cut to size locally fabricated pistol, one Iron cutter, three generators, two electric irons, some laundry clothes, recharge cards of various networks, one DVD player, seventy pairs of wrappers, UPS machine and a radio set.
