Warri South Council slams penalty for dumping of refuse from automobiles


As part of measures to improve the cleanliness of major roads and streets in Warri, Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State, has slammed financial penalty for tricycle as well as commercial and private vehicle owners, from whose automobile refuse are thrown on the roads and streets.

 

According to a statement by the Warri South Local Government Special Taskforce on Beautification, owners of commercial buses and tricycles, will pay a fine of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000.00) for refuse flung on the road while on transit and private vehicle owners will pay Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) for the same offence.

 

Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Special Taskforce on Beautification, Hon. Marvis Onojohwo, who released the statement in Warri, Monday October 18, noted that efforts of the taskforce and Warri South Local Government Environment Department led by the Supervisor for Environment, Patricia Edun, to improve the sanitary situation and aesthetics of Warri, was being frustrated as a result of indiscriminate dumping of garbage from commercial vehicles, tricycles and private cars.

 

He warned that anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately in residential areas and business places, without patronizing approved PSP operators, will also face the consequences, saying monitors have been placed on alert, to apprehend defaulters.
