Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye has ordered security agencies to carry out full scale investigation on the cause of the recurring fire outbreak at shops behind the Warri Main Market and directed the traders whose shops were razed by the recent fire outbreak to send a delegation to his office with a view to ascertaining the extent of damage.
Dr. Uroye handed down the order Friday August 29 when he led Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Eugene Ebisin, the DPO of ‘A’ Division of Nigeria Police in Warri, CSP Garaji Gardo, other security chiefs and other top functionaries of Warri South Local Government Council to the burnt shops.
The Warri South Council boss who was visibly shocked by the misery fire which allegedly started at 2 a.m Friday August 29 after it was earlier put off 10 p.m the previous day, also directed traders using make-shift structures beside Ogbe-Ijoh Market in Warri to clear-up the waste deposited along Market road by Main Market end before Monday September 1 or risk closure of their business.
Dr. Uroye who also led his delegation to Pessu Community commended the leadership and residents of Pessu for embarking on a special environmental sensitization exercise facilitated by Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Eugene Ebisin and asked other communities in Warri to emulate the initiative, stressing that it is in line with his administration’s resolve to partner community leaders and other stakeholders to rid Warri of refuse so as to save the area from epidemic.
Meanwhile, thirty three persons were Saturday August 30, prosecuted by the Warri South Council Mobile Court presided over by Chief Magistrate Ena Ojudgo for flouting sanitation orders.
While 23 were convicted and fined various sums of money depending on the degree of their offences, 10 were cautioned and discharged.
Environmental Health Officers from the council also supervised the evacuation of refuse as well as clearing of over-grown weeds in designated parts of Warri on Friday and Saturday August 29 and 30 respectively.
