The First Runner-up of the Most Beautiful Igbo Girl, MBIG in Warri, Miss Chiagozie Dorothy Okwe says luck was not on her side during the contest.
The Mass Communication graduate who hails from Enugu State made the disclosure during an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle International at Baileyz hotel after the lucky dip was done to ascertain the winner as a result of a tie between the runner-up and winner of the MBIG contest, Miss Ifeoma Ndukwe.
According to Miss Okwe, “luck was not on my side because it was actually a lucky dip. But if they had left it on intellectual and other part, I believe I was the winner. Even from the reaction of the people and the judges, I knew I was the winner. It was just the lucky dip that spoilt everything”.
The contestant who was the first to pick a piece of paper bearing loser, stated that she was unhappy with the result of the contest but would partake in other beauty contest. She opined, “I’m not happy because I know the effort and intellectuals (sic) I put into this competition compared to the person that took the crown. From my audience reaction and the participation of not failing any answer, yes I was the only one coming up to be the winner until the lucky dip came up at the end of the show”. She added, “This is my first beauty contest in my life. Yes I will go for another contest because not all beauty contests are partial. I know that there are good judges everywhere. The judges were not partial but for the fact that they brought a lucky dip, I can’t understand that”.
Meanwhile the chief judge of the MBIG contest, who identified himself simply as Mr. Didi, while defending their judgment which ended in a tie and subsequent lucky dip, said five criteria were used to judge the contestants.
According to him, “we have five criteria to judge from; Intellect, talent, dressing, facial expression and attitude. The eventual winner did everything right but was not gifted intellectually as the first runner-up. We had to scale them. It’s not just me, we are three. I can tell you with all honesty that I scored the winner highest and my colleague scored her second highest, while the third a tie. The records are there to show that it was free and fair and there was no cheating at all”.
