Ex-Community Chairman go berserk, attacks medical personnel in Bomadi General Hospital

The Bomadi General Hospital was on Tuesday October 21 thrown into a state of pandemonium, as staff and patients on admission scampered for safety when an ex-Bomadi Community Chairman identified simply as Peremowei Ebitomor A.K.A. Gadaffi went berserk, beating up medical personnel tending to his sick child on admission.

Gadaffi as he is popularly called went berserk at the male ward of the hospital after a breakdown in communication and allegedly attacked a nurse by the name Juliet Tontmi, inflicting injuries on her body and chased other staff of the hospital on duty.

The security man and the auditor of the hospital as well as other staff who crossed his path had their share of severe beating from a former community leader who they said “behaved like a drunken bull”.

According to the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Josiah Etukpere, trouble started when the nurse on duty requested Ebitomor to provide surgical gloves to enable her re-set the line on the child, but he refused. Dr. Etukpere explained that Ebitomor questioned the nurse if it takes surgical gloves to re-set the line. In the ensuing argument, the former Community Chairman became violent and beat up the nurse as well as other staff of the hospital within his reach.

The Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Emeka Offoche who confirmed the incident, said a report of an attack on medical personnel at the general hospital was on his desk, but however noted that the suspect was in hiding.

He assured management of the hospital that efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Amananaowei of Bomadi Urban Federated Communities, High Chief Godspower Oporomo in his reaction via mobile phone said a delegation led by the incumbent Community Chairman, Clement Tikpa on behalf of the community has apologized to management and staff of the hospital.

The Amananaowei while condemning the attack maintained “the law must be allowed to take its course”.
