Delta LG Poll: Omadeli heads to court over ‘stolen mandate’
Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli receiving the PDP flag from Hon. Adamu Muazu

Less than 24 hours after the Local Government Council polls was conducted in Delta State, the original PDP flag bearer for the Warri South-West Chairmanship seat, Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli has concluded arrangement to head to court over his candidature that was substituted barely two days to the controversial election.

In a press statement released in Warri Sunday October 26, Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli declared that there was no basis whether legal or procedural for the State leadership of his party to substitute his name with that of Hon. George Ekpemupolo 48 hours to the election after successfully scaling through the party hurdles and subsequently given the party flag by the National Chairman of PDP himself, Hon. Adamu Muazu at Asaba, the Delta State Capital.

According to Hon. Omadeli, at a time when the National leadership of the PDP is working towards bringing back aggrieved members of the party and preaching the gospel of internal democracy, “it is most obnoxious, unconstitutional, undemocratic and annoying” to have his name substituted after extensive campaign and consultation to get the people’s mandate in the build-up to the elections with someone who did not openly declare his intention to vie for the chairmanship, let alone campaign to get the peoples’ vote originally meant for him.

While noting that he is determined to pursue the legal battle to a logical conclusion without a breach of his party rules, Hon. Omadeli who has already contracted fiery Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo to institute legal action, stated that he will not be intimidated in his resolve “to reclaim the mandate originally given to me by my party”.

The decision of Hon. Weyinmi Omadeli to seek legal redress may once again signal another round of media war between Ijaws and Itsekiris of Warri South-West Local Government on the gentleman rotation agreement of the council’s plum job and its implication on the Warri South-West Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.
