Combined teams of the police at Oghara Police Station, a Naval Patrol Team and Vigilante have killed a robbery suspect who was a member of a four-man robbery gang that allegedly disposed Youth Corpers of their possessions at their lodge at Ovede-Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State.
According to police statement released by ASP Roland Preston, for the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, men of the force received distress call that four armed men invaded Corpers Lodge at Ovade-Oghara and robbed the Corpers of their money, laptops, electronics and handsets.
The statement added that based on the information, Police Patrol Team in synergy with Naval Patrol and Vigilante men mobilized to the scene where the hoodlums on sighting the security team, engaged them in a gun duel and in the ensuing duel, one of the unidentified armed robbers was fatally wounded, while others escaped.
Report says the wounded armed robber gave the name of their gang leader/armourer before giving up the ghost on the way to the hospital.
It was however gathered that most of the stolen items were recovered from the deceased suspect, even as efforts are on to track down the gang leader as well as other members of the gang.
Meanwhile, a 33-year old man identified as Ibiang Ofem, has been arrested by the police along Orenigbe-Umutu road.
The arrest followed the interception of his Audi Car with Reg. No. USL 05 XB by operatives of Dragon Patrol Team 06 on Tuesday October 23.
He was reportedly picked alongside one 22-year old Sunday England and items recovered from them upon searching the car include: One English made Automatic Pump Action rifle, one locally made single barrel gun, forty-seven live cartridges, one big sharp pointed iron bar, one Acer laptop, seven mobile phones, eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira cash as well as two and half gallons of sealed engine oil.
A statement by the Delta State Police Command reveals that the men allegedly robbed Olihe Oil Filling Station along the Orenigbe-Umutu road the previous night.
