Engage youths meaningfully, State NYCN Chairman tasks stakeholders

The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter, Comrade Hope George has called on stakeholders as well as Delta state government to engage the youths meaningfully with a view to harnessing their potentials and creative talents.

In an address presented at the Management Committee Meeting held recently at King George Centenary Hall in Warri South local Government Council sub secretariat, Comrade Hope George urged leaders and elders in the state to build bridges of understanding ,love , peace and tolerance between them and the youths in other to move the state forward.

Also speaking   , the Head of Personnel Management of Warri South Local government Council, Mr. James Kolo said there is need for dialogue between the youths and elders on every issue  in other to avoid conflicts.

Mr. James Kolo who was represented by the head of community development department in the council, Madam Dora Ugedi, advised the youths to shun all vices that are inimical to their   growth and development as well as that of the nation.

For his part, the commissioner for youth development, Mr. Ebifa Ijomah, revealed that the state government recently released the sum of two hundred thousand naira each to the forty five registered voluntary organizations as annual subvention. According to him ,the yearly subvention to voluntary organizations by the state government is aimed at assisting the youths to effectively carry out their activities.

Mr. Ebifa Ijomah who was  represented by Mr. A.S.  Agbogu, a director in the ministry, appealed to the youths to take advantage of the opportunities given by the state government in the area of youth development and shun all vices as well as desist from being used by political miscreants as tools for destabilization.

In a swift reaction, Commandant Wilson Ekriya noted that he is very sure that the said annual subvention to the youths has been approved by Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan led government. But added that there are some elements within the ministry of youth development who are trying to make sure that the money does not get to the hands of the youths or at most, bent on delaying the process for reasons not clear. According to him, if the issue  is not carefully handled , it is capable of causing serious conflicts within the youths.

Pioneer Chairman of NYCN, Delta State chapter, Chief Khaly Oformukoro  called on Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to industrialize Delta State so as to create employment for more youths. According to him, if the youths are gainfully employed, there will be reduction in the rate of crime in the  state and the nation at large. Chief Oformukoro also advised  youths  to separate their activities from politics.

While the former National Ex-Officio South South , Mr. Avwoke Elo-Fred advised the youths to embrace education and be involved in governance, Hon. Felix Ekurhe called for increase in the subvention by the state government to the youths in other to make them function better.

High point of the meeting was the inauguration of a 10 man committee by comrade Hope George. The committee is saddled with the responsibility of conducting the forthcoming NYCN state congress.
