Recruitment of 50 Workers: Itsekiri youths mobilize for protest as  NAIG Committee gives NNPC 14 days ultimatum to include  Itsekiris


 

 

Credible information available to Fresh Angle International, has revealed plans by some Itsekiri youths to protest at the premises of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, WRPC at  Ijala - Ikeren, Warri South Local Government Area this morning, Thursday February 3, over exclusion of Itsekiris in the alleged recent recruitment of 50 persons to work at the WRPC Jetty in Ijala - Ikeren, even as the Labour/ Employment Committee of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, has given the management of NNPC 14 days  to correct the perceived injustice or face shutdown of WRPC.

 

Chairman of Labour/ Employment Committee of NAIG, who is also the Vice President of the apex  Itsekiri graduates' body, Mr. Thomas Ejueyitchie Ekpoto, who spoke to This Newspaper yesterday,, said the 14 - day ultimatum, takes effect from today, Thursday February 3.

 

According to Ekpoto, it is not just a contravention of the Local Content Act, but an insult on the Itsekiri Nation for the management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC to employ 50 workers and send them to work at WRPC Jetty at Ijala - Ikeren, an Itsekiri Community, without engaging any Itsekiri indigene.

 

He vowed that if the management of NNPC fails  to include Itsekiri graduates among the workers within 14 days, they will shutdown WRPC operations at Ijala - Ikeren and other facilities of NNPC in Warri Kingdom.
