Scores of Itsekiri graduates, under the aegis of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, at about 5:00 am today, Monday March 21, stormed the gate of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, operational office in Warri, Delta State, demanding the reopening of the company's Vocational Training Programme, VTP.
The National President of NAIG, Comrade Ben Eburajolo, who is leading the protesters, told Fresh Angle International on telephone, that they are angry over the closure of the vocational training programme, "because that is the only avenue by which Itsekiris are employed in Chevron."

He declared via text message: "THE TIME IS RIPE, WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD FOR OUR PEOPLE.
"OUR ITSEKIRI BROTHERS AND SISTERS CAN NOT BE USED AS PERPETUAL CASUAL WORKERS IN OUR LAND BY CHEVRON AND OTHER TRIBES ENJOY FULL BENEFITS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
"VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME (VTP) MUST BE REOPENED BECAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY AVENUE BY WHICH ITSEKIRIS ARE EMPLOYED IN CNL.
"OGERE HAS BEEN CLOSED DOWN FOR 5 YEARS NOW. IT MUST BE REOPENED."
As at 6:50 am when this report was published, prominent official of the PGPA Department of Chevron Nigeria Limited, who spoke in confidence to Our Editor - In - Chief on telephone, said the company was not hiring new staff at the moment, as a result of the present difficult realities facing the oil and gas industry in the country, adding that vocational training programme can only be organized based on manpower needs.
