The leadership of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, has called on security agencies to investigate the attack of its members by thugs, during the peaceful protest held earlier today, Monday March 21, at the gate of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL in Warri, Delta State.
The Itsekiri graduates had stormed Chevron’s operational office in Warri and Olero/Dibi Fields, 5:00am, demanding the reopening of Ogere Training Centre and restart of the Vocational Training Programme, VTP, saying it was the only avenue by which Itsekiris were employed in CNL.
Fresh Angle International understands that the situation became ugly, when thugs alleged to have been sponsored, attacked the peaceful protesters, injuring some of them and resulting in the loss of valuables, belonging to the protesting Itsekiri graduates.
President of NAIG, Comrade Ben Eburajolo, who addressed an emergency press conference at NAIG Secretariat in Warri, 1: 00pm today, after the attack by the armed thugs at about 11:00am, stated: “At about 11:00am, thugs sponsored, carried machetes and other dangerous weapons, maimed Itsekiri Graduates. Valuables were lost and many were injured. We are calling on security operatives to investigate the issue and bring the perpetrators to book, so as to pay for the crime they committed.
"We are giving CNL seven days ultimatum to respond to our demands.
"We are writing a petition to the appropriate security operatives, to investigate the issue of maiming and attempted murder, we will not rest, until our demands are met".
Vice President of NAIG, Comrade Thomas Ekpoto, Secretary of the association, Mino Esiateqiwa and the PRO, Neyin Tetsoma, were among those present during the press conference.
