President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comrade Esimaje Awani has raised alarm over alleged attempt on his life on New Year day, January 1, 2015 by eight gunmen.
Comrade Awani while speaking with Our Senior Correspondent, explained that at about 12:35pm at his residence, Link Road Ajamimogha on the said day,eight boys ambushed him while he was driving out of his compound and ordered him to come out of his car.
According to him,while he was arguing with the armed men,some members of INYC who were in his residence came out to confront the gunmen,who allegedly brought out their guns and shot into the air before escaping.
The gunmen reportedly told him, Awani to give them the Christmas largesse (money) DESOPADEC gave to INYC.
Awani said he immediately reported the incident to the Police at Area Command, Warri and one of the gunmen (name withheld) was arrested by the Police at Okere Round About.
The arrested suspect allegedly confessed to participating in the ambush and mentioned a name (name withheld) as their gang leader. He also gave the names of other members of the gang, adding that they planned the attack at Ogiyede in Warri.
