Group threatens unpleasant consequences over continuous neglect of East-West road
A deplorable section of the East-West
road begging for urgent attention
A Niger Delta group, IjawTransformation Youth Movement has warned of unpleasant consequences in the months ahead if nothing urgent is done about the state of the East-West road.
The group which expressed disappointment with the manner President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister ofNiger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe are neglecting the project, described the road as a national shame.
They chided the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for paying lip service towards the project.
President of the group,Jerome Demebide in a chat with newsmen in Warri, summed up his thoughts this way, “We are not happy with the pace of the East-West road. What is President Jonathan doing with the construction firm or the Niger Delta Ministry, especially Godsday Orubebe? He went there to represent us and this is one of the key pains of our people. The only way you can develop our society is through road network. As I speak, if you go to the East/West road, a part of it has been turned into a block industry and nobody is saying anything about it.During the last JAMB, three persons died as a result of the bad state of the road”.
Vice President of the group,Omor Gbozimor bares his mind this way, “the road is very bad. If you look at the road, they are moulding blocks there with the sand that Setraco has placed there to work with. They are now using it as a business centre. We want the President to personally look into the matter and direct Orubebe to do something urgently”.
Others who spoke in the samevein are Secretary General of the group, Komboye Elijah, its Public Relations Officer, Oyas Brizimor as well as the group’s Project Monitoring Director,Akari B. Ali and Treasurer, Prezide Cosman.
