Sapelecommunity petitions NGC over gas explosion
The Peopleof Oton quarter in Sapele localgovernment area have petitioned Nigerian Gas Company, NGC over the gasexplosion which occurred March 28 in the quarter, demanding immediate clean upof the affected areas.
The petitionwhich is dated April 5 and addressed to the Managing Director of the Company atEkpan-Warri, is asking the company to as a matter of urgency send reliefmaterials to people of the quarter as well as pay the medical bills of thosehospitalized.
They arealso calling on NGC to negotiate with the affected families with a view to payingcompensation to everyone whose farm and aquatic lives were destroyed by theexplosion.
The petitionwhich was signed by chairmen and secretaries of Abeke, Obire and Okotiefamilies as well as landlord representatives in the quarter also copied the DeltaState governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Senate Committee on Oil and GasResource, Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Oil and gas aswell as the AIG, Benin.
WhileComrade Oghene-ovo Erure Abeke and Mr. Efe Awinoren Abeke signed for Abekefamily, Messrs Isaac Obire and Augustus Obire signed for Obire family and LuckyDadi Okotie and Israel Dadi Okotie signed for Okotie family.
Reports saythe company’s 3 inch Condense Return Pipeline along Ugberikoko road, Ghana,Sapele which exploded recently negatively affected the aquatic and agriculturallives of the people, even as they accused men of the Nigerian Army and Policeof molestation during the incident.
