The Commissioner Special Duties, in charge of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC and Secretary of Okowa Campaign Council, Warri South Local Government, Mr. Matthew Poko Opuoru on Saturday January 17 received Former House of Assembly Candidate for Warri South Constituency II under the platform of Democratic Peoples’ Party, Prince Odjuwu Okumagba and some Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress as well as Labour Party to the PDP.
The Commissioner who received the decampees when he played host to a large gathering of PDP faithful from Okumagba wards 1 and 2, Okere, Otowodo and other wards in Warri South Local Government Area at Idama hotel, Warri, noted that the major aim of the meeting was to bring everybody together to have a sense of belonging.
While describing himself as a key political figure in Warri, particularly in the Urhobo axis, Mr. Opuoru enjoined party faithful in Okumagba and other wards in Warri South Constituency II to ensure that Delta State PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP flag bearers win in their areas in the forth coming elections so that “we can have a voice in the next government”.
The PDP Chieftain who expressed delight at the large turnout of people, cutting across party affiliations, promised that within the next two months, “the road abandoned in Otor-Orere in Okere-Urhobo will commence”, while work would soon start on the road linking the Police ‘B’ Division from major roads in Okere-Urhobo.
He assured people of the area that so long as they remain united, more dividends of democracy will come to Okumagba wards in particular and other areas in the constituency.
In his remark, a patriarch of the Okumagba dynasty and Former DPP House Assembly Candidate for Warri South Constituency II, Prince Odjuwu Okumagba disclosed that his decision to join the PDP alongside his supporters was as a result of “over two years of talking” from Mr. Matthew Opuoru, noting that he is “ready to work with PDP”.
According to the ex-leading opposition party leader in Okumagba Wards 1and 2, those “contesting under APC and Labour Party are fake because they will soon return to PDP”.
Our Correspondent reports that the gathering which was attended by serving and past Councilors in Warri South Local Government Area, some Government appointees as well as party stalwarts also witnessed submissions on the way forward for Urhobos in Warri in the next political dispensation.
