The Edo State Police command has employed the services of trained dogs to rid the State of crime, particularly in the area of crowd control and identification of contraband items such as illicit drugs, explosives and dead bodies already buried.
The police commissioner who stated this during a Press briefing recently in Benin City,said the dogs which are of two breeds ; Sniffers and Alsatians are to be deployed in different areas of the State when needed to help investigate crime and as well as in crowd control.
He noted that the dogs have been specially trained to carryout special tasks such as bomb detection, tracing drugs like cocaine, weeds as well as to chase armed robbers, kidnappers and identification of smokers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Etim Bassey stated that the dogs have been deployed in large numbers to the state, noting that such specially trained dogs would be able to help the Police drastically reduce crime in the State.
