Niger Delta Welders under the aegis of Ijaw, Ilaje and Ekpan Host Communities’ Welders and Fitters Forum have lauded Chevron Nigeria Limited for training 220 youths drawn from Ijaw,Itsekiri, Ilaje and Urhobo ethnic groups.
In a press statement, the Forum commended the United States Oil major for organizing the training, which commenced in February 2010 and ended in March, 2012.
The Chairman and PRO of Ijaw Host Communities Welders and Fitters, George Timiyan and Siko Eyenmi respectively issued the statement and noted that the youths trained in measurement and dimensions, types and sizes of plates, pipe and electrodes,cutting and using machine oxygen and acetylene, especially the Argon welding can use these acquired skills to fend for themselves.
According to Mr. Imole Thompson Oyenyen, the Ilaje Host Community Welders Chairman, the 220 Welders selected by Chevron across the host communities were trained in Argon welding,combination welding and could be of great advantage to the host communities’ welders, “because not every company can spend huge amount in the training of youths for Argon welding.”
The Ekpan host community Chairman, Mr. Brown Akemu, who participated in the training described it as first of its kind.
The Forum also expressed gratitude to the Management of Southern Gas Constructors Limited, SGC,especially Gefferson and Emmanuel Igah, for their contribution towards the success of the youths training. “We usethis opportunity to commend Chevron Nigeria Limited and appreciate you for your efforts towards the progress of welders training programme which started February 2010 and ended March 2012,” they stated.
