Warri Port: It’s unlawful for BPE to concession Terminal B, Stakeholders petition Jonathan

Stakeholders of Warri Port under the auspices of NPA Warri Port Stakeholders’ Forum have petitioned President Goodluck  Ebele Jonathan  over alleged moves by Bureau of Public Enterprise, BPE to concession Terminal B of the Warri Old Port in Delta State.

In the petition dated March 17, 2015, the NPA Warri Port Stakeholders’ Forum declared that in line with section 14 of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission Act 2015, the BPE had no business putting up any publication for the concession , stressing that “It was a clear violation of the law and a usurpation of the functions of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC”.

According to the petitioners, “The National Policy on Public Private Partnership makes it mandatory for all previous concessions carried out by the BPE before the commencement of the ICRC Act to be transferred to the ICRC for monitoring and supervision”.

The petition which was signed by Emiko Oghomienor, Tommy Gbugbuda, Oritsema Olley and Jonathan Duris Orugbo on behalf of the NPA Warri Port Stakeholders’ Form, wondered why the ICRC “is quiet and docile in the face of such flagrant usurpation of its functions, or is the ICRC complicit in the purported concession of the said Terminal B by the BPE?”

They called  on President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the perceived illegality with the seriousness it deserves and vowed that they will recourse to the courts of law should the alleged illegality is not nipped in the bud.
