Nigerian Students in Northern Cyprus, suffering inhuman treatment – Group raises alarm

A group by the name Nigerian Diaspora Youth Ambassador, has raised alarm, saying Nigerian youths in Northern Cyprus, are suffering from intense depression as a result of alleged “inhuman treatment meted to them”.

Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report that President of the Association, Mr. David Alozie, reportedly raised the alarm, when he led a four-man delegation of the association to the Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, Hon. (Dr) Abike Dabiri-Erewa at Abuja.

Information obtained by This Newspaper, today, Wednesday July 6, from the verified twitter handle of NIDCOM, emphasized: “Nigerian youths are suffering from intense depression as a result of the inhuman treatment meted to them, giving rise to the high rate of suicide amongst them in Northern Cyprus”.

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission in Abuja, explained in a statement that the purpose of the group’s visit, was to appeal for quick intervention of the Federal Government, in addressing the plight of Nigerian students in Northern Cyprus.

The students, are reported to be racially profiled and deported on arrival at the airport for establishing contact with any individual in Southern Cyprus.

Mr. Alozie, allegedly told the Commission that Nigerian students are forced to pay for tuition in Pounds, whereas other foreign students pay in Turkish Lira (TL).

In her response, Dabiri-Erewa, gave assurance that NIDCOM will continue to work with relevant agencies like the International Organization for Migration, IOM, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS and the Parent Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the nagging issue of Northern Cyprus.

Northern Cyprus is recognized only by Republic of Turkey, Nigeria and other countries do not have an Embassy there, making it difficult to take the Northern Cyprus up with the United Nations or European Union.
