Dcn. Mese, who spoke exclusively to Fresh Angle International, Wednesday July 6, in Effurun, Delta State, opined that the Okowa led administration has, ‘tried to some extent in the health sector, infrastructural development, sports, security and other forms of empowerment programmes”.

On how the trainees cum entrepreneurs created by the Okowa administration, would be able to run their businesses effectively amid the near zero public power supply, he averred: “All those that have issues with power supply, concerning the skill acquisition, have generators, courtesy of Dr. Okowa’s government. The state government was mindful of the fact that tailors and owners of beauty salons, needed alternative source of power supply, hence they provided generators for them as part of the starter-packs.

“In a bid to avoid a situation where those empowered would sell the starter-packs, the state government ensured that before they give the graduate trainees starter-packs, they send them to other institutions, to be sure they have idea of the skill(s) in question. Those selected for the trainings, cut across religion and tribe.

“By this weekend, another set of empowerments, will commence and it will interest you to know that each of the beneficiaries, will get a minimum of N700, 000.00 and the state government is paying for their rent for one year. The beneficiaries will be monitored six months after, to see what they would have done with the empowerment. The essence, is to prevent a situation where the wrong people would be empowered”.

Dcn. Mese, who equally reacted to the controversy surrounding the choice of Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as PDP Vice Presidential candidate, stated: “Let’s not be sentimental, Wike has his own state, Delta State is ours and we have our own priorities. Dr. Okowa started as Secretary to Local Government, later Local Government Chairman and rose to the position of Commissioner, Secretary to State Government and other strategic positions. Dr. Okowa, is not the talking type, when you talk too much, you talk yourself into problem. For me, Okowa is the best choice for VP. Delta State is a mini-Nigeria, consisting of four major tribes and Dr. Okowa has been able to reduce restiveness in the state”.
