The Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo, Elohor Aiboni, says Nigeria has the biggest gas reserves in Africa (206 Tcf) and amongst the top 10 in the world, yet not ranked among top 10 gas producers in the globe currently.
Fresh Angle International understands that Elohor Aiboni, who made the shocking revelation at the on-going Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference, NOG, explained: “Shell Energy, our new business line, was established to focus on Gas, Power, Renewables & Energy Solutions for Industrial & Commercial customers (On Grid & Off Grid) with a goal, to distribute 1B cubic feet of gas in the domestic market by 2030.
"In 2021, Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) which is part of Shell Energy business line, supplied over 400 MW equivalent of gas-generated power in Nigeria. SNG also provided #gas to more than 130 commercial & industrial customers.
“Renewables for Power: Nigeria has large Solar potential and now needs to increase its Solar to off grid Power Solutions - the quickest way to increase access and provide millions of people with reliable and sustainable electricity.
“AllOnEnergy, a not-for-profit impact investment company funded by SPDC & SNEPCo ($200M), is helping to close access to energy gap by serving off-grid communities, through its investments & collaborations with renewable energy start-ups in Nigeria.
"In 2021 AllOnEnergy facilitated over 45,000 off-grid connections, and increased to 51,171 connections by March 2022. All On aims to increase this to 75,000 by the end of the year. This number is expected to reach over half a million in the next five years.
"Today, AllOnEnergy, has thirteen (13) mini-grids sites in eight (8) States of Nigeria, solar energy systems spread across all (36) States in Nigeria, and three (3) solar refrigeration in three states, with more to come."
