The Catholic Men Organization of Our Lady Queen of Apostle Catholic Church, Jeddo, on Sunday July 3, celebrated Father’s Day, with the theme: “Celebrating the gift of fatherhood with our fathers”, at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Jeddo in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.

The celebration started on Saturday July 2 with a health talk, by Dr. Chidi Agbasoga, followed by aerobes and a table tennis competition by the various houses with (Fr. Enwefah Cletus House group A) emerging as the winner, represented by Mr. Karo Okotete.

In the evening same day, there was a spiritual exercise, beginning with rosary procession and ended with the Holy Mass.

The Holy Mass, was co-celebrated by Very. Rev. (Fr.) Peter Ovie Igolo, Rev. Fr. Cletus Enwefah and the current Parish Priest, Rev. (Fr.) Bartholomew Odeghe, with C.M.O members, as the Mass Servers for the day.

Immediately after the Holy Mass, there was a grand reception for the celebration proper.

The President of the Catholic Men Organization, CMO of Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Jeddo, Mr. Adolphus Umeh, in his welcome address, congratulated the awardees, saying, “your moral, spiritual, material and financial contributions, have been noted and recognized.

“We are proud of you; see what you will receive today as a call for more useful contributions to the growth of the CMO and the Church.

“I urge you to contribute to show the much you love the organization and the parish.”

He also thanked St. Vincent de Paul Society, for the charity role they play in the parish and also Ogbuefi Peter Ugochukwu, the Father’s Day Planning Committee Chairman and his team, for a job well-done.

 

A Cross section of the awardees

 

One of the side attractions, was cooking competition by men, from the various groups. The competition was won by Rev. (Fr.) Bartholomew Odeghe’s group D, represented by Mr. Robert Anyanwu.

The event also featured various forms of entertainment by the children, the woman and men of the parish.

Highlights of the celebration, were presentation of awards and recognition of 35 deserving members of the church, including Sir Emmanuel Ofor, Chief Prince Onaro and Lady Victory Oghenechoven. Posthumous awards, were also given to three late members of the church. 

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Sir John Agbada, thanked the Church and the CMO, for giving them the awards, in recognition of “the little contributions” they have done in the Church, saying it is a call for them to do more.
