The Executive Council of Warri South Local Government in Delta State, has refuted claim of extortion by pocket of traders in Igbudu Market, who staged protest to the Council Secretariat, Wednesday July 13, insisting that during a tripartite peace-parley held in the wake of the protest, the issue of increment or otherwise, was raised by the traders and not the Management Committee setup by the Council.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, explained that he mandated the Igbudu Market Association to work closely with the Management Committee and report all activities in the market to the Market Superintendent, who is the representative of the Council.
While noting that the disagreement between the affected traders of Igbudu Market and the Igbudu Market Management Committee, has been resolved, Dr. Tidi, averred that after the tripartite peace-parley held Wednesday July 13 between the Council Executive, Security Personnel and representatives of the aggrieved traders, “all parties, agreed to work together for the progress of the market”.
He frowned at the situation where the hitherto aggrieved traders, denied staffers of the Council access to their offices, prior to resolution of the issue.
