FG to investigate murder of Echefu by alleged arm robbers in South Africa

The Federal Government through the Office of the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has vowed to investigate the murder of a Nigerian, Mr. Michael Chima Echefu, who was allegedly shot dead in his shop by unknown robbers in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Fresh Angle International can report that Dr. Dabiri-Erewa, gave the assurance, today, Friday July 22, in a statement while condoling with the family of late Michael Chima Echefu.

In the condolence message, the NIDCOM Chairman, assured the family of proper investigation into the matter, with the hope of arresting those behind the dastard act.

She commended: “The prompt intervention of the Consul General, Mr. Andrew Idi in South Africa”, who promptly visited the bereaved family and provided necessary support for the repatriation of the remains of Echefu back to Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa, urged the South African authorities, to see to the logical conclusion of the matter by fishing out those behind the killing of Mr. Echefu, so as not to be like the unresolved cases of previous murder of Nigerians in South Africa. 

This Newspaper understands that the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa, NICASA, Kazeem Babatunde, announced the killing of Mr. Michael Chima Echefu, a native of Amaigbo, Imo State. 

The announcement by Kazeem Babatunde, noted: "The unfortunate incident happened on Monday 27th June 2022. According to eye witness account, the deceased was shot and killed by a South African robbery gang, who robbed him at gun point in his shop located at Rissik and Jeppe Street, Johannesburg”.

Late Mr. Echefu, is survived by wife; Ugochi Echefu and three children.
