Exclusive: APC candidate calls for cancellation of polls in Bomadi

The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for Bomadi Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Preye Okaba has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to cancel the April 11 Governorship and State House of Assembly election held in Bomadi Local Government Area in Delta State over perceived “widespread irregularities”.

While reacting to the outcome of the polls, Okaba accused the member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Mutu and the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Hon. Karetimi of hijacking election materials at Akugbene wards 7, 8, and 9, which he claimed has the largest votes in the Local Government Area. He said the figures that gave the incumbent the purported victory do not reflect the number of accredited voters on the card reader.

According to him, “We are in possession of a clip as evidence to show for our claims. Results were collated at one of the private residence of Mutu. Result sheets were snatched. This is in spite of INEC’s assurances of free, fair and credible election. This has undermined the free, fair and credible elections INEC promised Nigerians.  I am therefore calling on INEC to cancel the election in Bomadi Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and incumbent representing Bomadi Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. K. O. Preyor winner of the election despite the allegation by the APC candidate, Preye Okaba .

Hon. Preyor reportedly polled 52,334 votes out of 53, 635 votes cast and was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Dr. Joel Urheigho, while his closest rival, Preye Okaba, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC polled 859 votes. Candidate of the Labour Party, Boboango Kiapene scored 407 to clinch third position, just as Sunday Egbaseimokumor came a distant 4th with 35 votes.

The Returning Officer, Urheigho while declaring the result at INEC Office, Bomadi, venue of the collation, said “The incumbent who met the requirement of the law and having scored the highest number of votes cast and by the powers conferred on me, the PDP candidate, Hon. Oboro Preyor is hereby declared winner and returned elected”.
