The International Inner Wheel Club, IWM District 916, Sisters Against HIV & Cancer Initiative, in conjunction with Annunciation Catholic Church, Ogunu in Warri, Delta State, on Friday July 29, began a three - day free medical screening at Ogunu Community in Warri South Local Government Area.

 

Fresh Angle International, can report that the screening is taking place at the primary healthcare enter in Ogunu.

 

The free medicare exercise rounding off Sunday July 31, was flagged off by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, represented by Warri South Council Supervisor for Health, Mr. Sunny Bodor.

 

Dr. Tidi, in a message, thanked the International Inner Wheel Club, District 916 for the gesture and prayed God to continually give members of the Club, the strength in carrying out their humanitarian and selfless service to humanity.

Specking with Our Correspondent, the outgoing District Chairman, IPDC of IWM, District 916, Lawrenta Oribioye, said the Club, which covers the South - South region of Nigeria, initiated the three - day exercise, to give free eye test and free eye glasses, among other health services, to the under - privileged.

 

She disclosed that some women who were diagnosed of cervical cancer, costing about 1.5m naira per patient, will be treated free of charge, as a result of intervention of the Club, which will bear the financial burden.

 

This Newspaper, can report that blood sugar test, free Hepatitis B Test and vaccination, free HIV test and distribution of drugs for women, seeking fruit of the womb, are also being carried out in the three - day medical outreach.

The 3rd District Chairman (2022/2023) of IWM , Oluwatobi Adeoye, who spoke in the same vein with Mrs. Oribioye, noted that the medical screening was put together, to help the less - privileged, who find it difficult getting health care, because of the cost implication and to also mark this year's World Hepatitis day (yesterday, July 28.)

 

The Nursing Director in Charge of the Primary Healthcare Center in Ogunu, Mrs. Gladys Otomewo, said that Cervical Cancer test or screening, is for women that are sexually active between the ages of 18 and 60, adding that early detection is the key to successful treatment.

 

She commended the organizers for bringing the medical screening to the healthcare facility in Ogunu.

At the Annunciation Catholic Church , Ogunu, which celebrated their Love feast, spiritual and health talk, the medical personnel, also talked about the need for periodic testing and treatment of HIV, blood sugar and Blood pressure, amongst other health challenges.

 

Professor Very Rev. Fr. Mark Ikeke, the Parish Priest of St, Jude Catholic Church, Effurun, who was present, said knowledge is a means of obtaining genuine power in the spiritual, physical, material and intellectual sphere of life.
